USING HANDSPUN YARN: Handspun yarn is terrifying to the uninitiated. It’s pretty, but it looks expensive and it’s weird. Join Hava and make 3 small projects: a hat with optional mittens, a striped shawlette, and a narrow scarf, all featuring handspun yarn as a design element and accent. COLD PROCESS SOAP MAKING: 30 years of soap making experience (What? Did she start when she was 6?) is what Kathy brings to this discussion class. Learn the process of saponification – what turns fat and lye into soap, discuss some of the common pitfalls and learn some hacks. Leave with a pre-measured kit and complete instructions to make approximately 20 bars of soap at home, or choose 10 bars of Kathy’s hand made soaps. Saturday, 2-4 PM. April 8. $65.00
BEGINNING SPINNING: It may be witchcraft, we will neither confirm nor deny. Bobbi teaches you how to create your own yarn from fiber. Students will learn to use both the drop spindle and the spinning wheel, try different types of wheels and experiment with different fibers. DYEING
HAND PAINTED YARN: Use the Raven Frog dye studio to hand paint a skein of yarn in the colors of your choice. Choose between sock, DK or worsted weight yarns, or a sock blank and make a one-of-a-kind color palette. You will take home a completed, very wet skein of yarn.
