 Heindselman's Knit & Gift
America's Oldest Yarn Shop

About Us

Located in Provo, Utah, Heindselman’s Yarn and Gift is the oldest yarn shop in the United States, family owned for three generations. We carry hundreds of yarns, including locally handspun and hand dyed varieties, specialty threads for lace making and crochet cottons in over 200 colors.

We also have a beautiful selection of fibers for spinning including locally sourced alpaca, angora and locally dyed rovings and art batts.

Shop our lovely gift section for stunning, locally made products you will be proud to own and use. Many of them are commemorative pieces with a unique Utah connection.

Heindselman’s thrives on this simple commitment: You can walk into our store any time we are open for business and get help on whatever project you are working on. Our employees are all fiber arts afficionados and expert in their chosen areas. So whether your craft is knitting, crochet, spinning, tatting, weaving, bobbin lace or even needlepoint, we can get you to the expert help you need.

Are you ready to enter the fiber art world or expand with a new skill or craft? Heindselman’s offers classes in every genre. Sure, there is knitting and crochet, but here you also find classes in everything from felt making to tatting to spinning and various styles of weaving. New classes are added constantly so check our calendar!

We are extremely selective about the lines of products we carry and test every new yarn we offer. If the label says, “superwash”, we have washed it, repeatedly, before it goes on the shelf. We constantly monitor the world textile industry and insist on carrying only top quality products. You put way too much time, effort and love into your creations to experience the heartbreak that results from using inferior materials.

Since 1904 Heindselman’s has been a fixture in downtown Provo. Started as an aside to “Doc” Heindselman’s optometry practice, the yarn shop has flourished through the decades and today is ready to fuel your craft with beautiful, top quality products and expert level instruction. Come visit, sit with us at the iconic front table, enjoy the snacks and the company. We would love to see you!
